Saint Michael is one of the four archangels in both Jewish and Christian scriptures. He is considered the patron angel and guardian of Israel. In art, he is usually portrayed as a warrior. In Revelation 12:7-9, Michael and his angels fight a dragon. Later tradition identifies him as the angel mentioned in Acts 7:38 who gave the law to Moses on Mount Sinai. His feast day is the festival of Michaelmas on September 29.
